Dutch flag Friday 7th May 1993
Rotterdam, the Netherlands

Feyenoord Stadium

Note: My recording ends before the phone call is rehearsed, and before any mention of the "good old days" which he is reported to have spoken about – please contact me if you can provide any further clips. I should also point out that the sound quality isn't great and MacPhisto rambles on quite incoherently (making things up as he goes along), so a few bits are hard to decipher – your suggestions and corrections are welcome!

[Desire ends with MacPhisto shouting "I have a vision... I have a vision... I have a vision. Eurovision!"]

MacPhisto: "Eurovision! ...Eurovision. Jolly good. Right now... [inaudible] people come here to... tonight... I feel... close to you. Maybe it's the night that's in it... I don't know. Maybe it's my... my wonderful band, they make me feel so at home on this stage. I feel the warmth as I see the money grow by the minute. I'd like you to introduce... I'd like to introduce you to my band. There's that little hunk, Larry Mullen Junior up there, having a little chat."

[female fan laughs]

MacPhisto: "And, um... you're curiously silent tonight. Could you be overcome by emotion, perhaps?"

[fans giggle]

MacPhisto: "Well... I don't blame you. I can see you're all in awe of my platform shoes."

[fans giggle]

MacPhisto: "Indeed, so am I. I bought them because I know young people like their pop stars to be exciting."

[male fan laughs]

MacPhisto: "And that's very true. The last time you saw me, I had a white flag. Now, look what you've done. You've made me very famous, and I thank you. There's a lovely little young person here. Would you mind if I just take your photograph, you have very, very... very fine cheekbones. It's funny... even when you get to the very top, little things don't work."

[fan giggles]

MacPhisto: "Thank you. Thank you very much, maybe you could process that, just... I think, um... it's time to end this banter, and I'd like to give you a little song."

MacPhisto: [sings] "Try a taste of Martini, the most beautiful drink in the world!  It's the right one..."

[male fans laugh loudly]

MacPhisto: [sings] "It's the bright one, that's Martini!"

[male fans chat and laugh]

MacPhisto: "Maybe not. Maybe I should make a little telephone call. Sometimes I call the President of the United States, you know. But not tonight!  I'm calling a taxi, to go home."
