[Desire ends with "Edge...?"]

MacPhisto: "Look what you've done to me. You've made me very famous, and I thank you."

Crowd: [cheer]

MacPhisto: "Rock 'n' roll, don't you love it? African rhythm, European melody – what an idea, eh? Catchy, eh? It's the new religion, rock 'n' roll, I think. I have a great interest in religion, actually. Some of my best friends are religious leaders. The Ayatollah... the Pope... even the Archbishop of Canterbury. I think he's fabulous. They're doing my job for me, aren't they? Putting the children off God. What's the name of him, my friend, what's his name... George Carey. I'm a little worried about him because he wants to let women into the church. Then again, you'll all just become Catholics, won't you? I'd like that. Nobody goes to church any more. That's right. Shall I give the Archbishop a call?"

Crowd: "Yeah!"

MacPhisto: "Ahh... they make lovely cucumber sandwiches in Lambeth Palace."

[dials]

Woman: "Lambeth Palace."

MacPhisto: "Hello, I'd like to speak to the Archbishop of Canterbury, please."

Woman: "Unfortunately, sir, he's in America."

Crowd: [boo]

MacPhisto: "No, there must be some misunderstanding. My name is Mr MacPhisto and I'd like to speak to the Archbishop of Canterbury."

Woman: "Er, as I said, sir, he's abroad, he's in America at the moment."

MacPhisto: "Oh. Is it business or pleasure?"

Woman: "Business, sir."

MacPhisto: "Um... could I leave him a message?"

Woman: [clears throat hesitantly] "You can do."

MacPhisto: [sings] "I just called to say I love you... I just called to say how much I care..."

MacPhisto: "That's a good one, isn't it?"

[Ultra Violet begins]
