Páirc Uí Chaoimh
Note: If anyone was at this show or has seen video footage, I'd love to know who takes a tumble at the end of Desire – do let me know! Cheers. :)
[Desire ends with MacPhisto saying "Ohhhh dear... up up up up up up up up!"]
MacPhisto: "You fell over, didn't you? ...What an evening. What an occasion. The occasion of occasions! Aren't they the greatest showband on Earth?"
MacPhisto: "And this, the greatest ballroom on Earth. Or ballpark. Well, they're all here tonight: Dave Fanning's here tonight, Gerry Ryan..." [laughs] "BP Fallon – happy birthday Mr Boogaloo! And the greatest ballroom manager of them all is here tonight – our esteemed Taoiseach!"
MacPhisto: "Welcome you all, [inaudible], they're all here tonight. Ha ha ha ha. Oh, gosh. Rock 'n' roll, eh? Ha ha. They call it... the Devil's music. It is my music. Can't you feel it burning inside you... oh baby? Civilisation is crumbling – who can take you back from the brink? The GAA, that's who!"
MacPhisto: "We're their guests tonight... so there'll be no sales of condom in here, will there? No rubber Johnnies, no? We don't want the young people carried away on a sea of seed and desire, now do we? They'll be at it like rabbits – slaves to the Devil's monument. Delivered to the gates of Hell in a latex jacket!"
MacPhisto: "Contraception? Safe sex? AIDS? It's not their problem, is it. No homos, junkies or Haitians here tonight, no. Just castrated, abstemious, happy families here tonight. Fine and dandy, not a willy in sight."
[Men in crowd: "WILLY!"]
MacPhisto: "And we've got the GAA to thank for that, haven't we. Shall I give them a telephone call?"
MacPhisto: "Who stuffed those cannons?"
[phone rings for some time]
MacPhisto: [sings] "Keep me hanging on the telephone..."
[phone continues to ring]
MacPhisto: "Where is Frank Murphy?"
[Man: "He's here!"]
MacPhisto: "He's here? What do you mean, he's not at home. He's here? Oh. Oh, I shall sing him a song then, shall I?"
MacPhisto: [sings] "Snowdrops and daffodils, butterflies and bees... dances, romances, things of the night... sailboats, fishermen, postcards to write... all kinds..."
Crowd: [singing] "...of everything, remind me of you!"
[Ultra Violet begins]
